Vectrino, Vectrino+ and Vectrino II

We are considering purchasing a new ADV and would like some advice regarding the capabilities of various Vectrinos.  We work in relatively small gravel-bed rivers where flow depths range from <10 cm.

  • The Vectrino field probes have sampling volumes located 10 cm from the probe.  This is a potential problem for us when working in relatively shallow flows.  In your experience, how well does the Vectrino field probe work very close to a rough boundary (<2 cm)?
  • The Vectrino+ works at frequencies up to 200 Hz as opposed to the 25 Hz offered by the standard Vectrino.  Using a Nortek FieldADV we generally see noise floors in the range 8-12 Hz, can there be any potential benefits of working at frequencies >25 Hz?
  • The Vectrino II has a sampling volume situated closer to the probe and is capable of working very close to the boundary but it is predominantly designed for use with AC input in the lab. We have heard that running it on a battery in the field can result in noise levels increasing as the battery runs down.  Has anyone had experience of using the Vectrino II in the field and can they corroborate this?

Hi Martin, I sent you an email regarding this earlier this morning. Let me know if you have any follow up questions.

Sure.  Thanks for the reply.  i think we have all the info we need and a demo arranged for 16th Feb.

Excellent. Is this for a Vectrino II or Vectrino?

If it's a Vectrino II and you run into any troubles just email me. It's a complex instrument and takes a little bit of experience to get the most out of.
